FAQ
BricsCAD questions, answered
Licences, pricing, compatibility, trials and support — everything Indian buyers usually ask before switching to BricsCAD.
What is BricsCAD?
BricsCAD is a DWG-based CAD platform developed by Bricsys (now part of Octave) for 2D drafting, 3D modelling, BIM and mechanical design. It comes in five editions — Lite, Pro, BIM, Mechanical and Ultimate — and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Can BricsCAD open and save AutoCAD DWG files?
Yes. BricsCAD uses DWG as its native file format, so you open, edit and save .dwg files directly without conversion. According to Bricsys, the current version supports the DWG format through AutoCAD 2026.
Is BricsCAD available with a perpetual licence?
Yes. Bricsys sells BricsCAD as a perpetual (lifetime) licence as well as 1-year and 3-year subscriptions. A new perpetual licence includes the first year of BricsCAD Maintenance (support and upgrades); renewing Maintenance after that is optional.
What is the BricsCAD price in India?
The price depends on the edition, licence type (perpetual or subscription), single or network seats, quantity and any current offers. We don’t publish a fixed list price — request a quote and we’ll send a written INR price with GST shown separately. The official Octave BricsCAD online store lists international prices in EUR.
Which BricsCAD edition should I choose?
Lite for 2D drafting; Pro if you also need 3D modelling, rendering, point clouds, civil/survey tools or compiled (BRX) third-party apps; BIM for building design and IFC/Revit workflows; Mechanical for assemblies, sheet metal and BOMs; Ultimate if your team needs all of them. See compare editions or ask us for a recommendation.
Will my AutoCAD LISP routines, menus and templates work?
In most cases, yes. BricsCAD supports AutoLISP (including vl, vla, vlax and vlr functions), DCL, scripts, CUI menus, DWT templates and CTB/STB plot styles in every edition. Compiled BRX/.NET/VBA applications need BricsCAD Pro or higher. We recommend testing your own files during the free trial — our migration service helps with this.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Bricsys offers a full-featured 30-day trial that lets you try every edition from Lite to Ultimate with one installer, with no credit card required. See our free trial page for the official download link.
Do you provide a GST invoice?
Yes — every order is billed with a proper GST invoice so businesses can claim input tax credit. Share your GSTIN when you request a quote.
Do you offer network (floating) licences?
Yes. A network licence lets several users share a pool of concurrent seats; it needs a licence server on your network, which we can install and configure for you. Bricsys sells BricsCAD Lite network licences in packs of 5 seats.
Can I upgrade my existing BricsCAD licence?
Yes. Perpetual licences can be upgraded to a higher edition or to the latest version. According to Bricsys, upgrades are supported from up to three versions back. Contact us with your current licence details.
Is BricsCAD free for students?
Bricsys offers free academic licences for students and educators. Apply directly through the official Students & Schools page.
Do you help teams switch from AutoCAD to BricsCAD?
Yes. Our migration service reviews your drawings, templates, fonts, plot styles, menus and LISP routines, sets up BricsCAD to feel familiar, and trains your team. See services.
Which operating systems does BricsCAD support?
BricsCAD runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and Bricsys licences can be used across these platforms. Check the official system requirements before installing on older hardware.
How is the licence delivered?
BricsCAD licences are delivered electronically. After your order is confirmed you receive your licence key/activation details, and we can help you install and activate on every machine.
